Café Lomi is one of the big names in Paris coffee, having been on the scene practically since its inception and supplying beans for a number of restaurants and specialty coffee shops in the city. Roasting was previously the sole occupation of owner Aleaume Paturle, but thankfully he decided to open up a café for the general public in 2012. Given the outstanding quality of the coffee they serve at Café Lomi, it would have been cruel to make us wait any longer.

The space is great. It's big, open, beautifully designed and, combined with the friendliness of the staff, creates a very communal and cosy atmosphere. There is also free wifi and a selection of franco- and anglophone reading material (magazines, newspapers, etc.) carefully laid out on the bar. Enjoy your coffee with one of their many sweet and savoury bites prepared with love in the corner kitchen.

Café Lomi organises a number of different training sessions, including barista and coffee knowledge courses, which all take place in their workshop out the back of the café. Baristas working in cafés or restaurants which use Lomi beans are required to complete at least 20 hours of training before they can serve a Lomi coffee. Talk about quality control.

Once you’ve finished up, walk back along la rue Ordener and turn right onto Boulevard Ornano. This will take you to le marché aux puces de St. Ouen – Clignancourt flea markets, where you’ll find everything from bootleg DVDs and counterfeit football jerseys to quality vintage clothing and antique bric-a-brac. It’s always nice to have a quick look at the outdoor market stalls before heading into the antique section, which is much more peaceful and full of all manner of interesting knickknacks.
